"It's not how you fall, it's how you get back up" 🎵 @pitbull really knew what he was talking about!! This is the normal for working out with Friedreichs Ataxia. I usually just cut out the clips of me tipping over. But in all reality, it helps my motivation. Yes, I fall. But…. I get back up and keep going! Everyone falls/fails at times. The important thing is that you get back up (wipe your tears) and KEEP GOING! #curefa #friedreichsataxia #ataxiadefriedreich #ataxiaawareness #ataxia #motivation #embracetheshake #keepgoing Feel free to reach out to me as I'm open for virtual personal training and nutrition sessions. A strong core is important for everyone, but especially important for wheelchair users! Here I'm using a 20lb slam ball while sitting without a backrest. Next I'm practicing slow and controlled shoulder taps. Using my core to stabilize me and not tip over. This movement that I call "self centering" is what I do before every workout. It helps with hand eye coordination, balance, and proprioception! Honestly try it! I've been doing it for years and it has helped me so much! 15seconds before a workout makes a huge difference! - Kelly Gregory, CPT Feel free to reach out as I am open for virtual personal training sessions! • Exercise while spending time with family

This past week I've been spending time with friends and family while enjoying the outdoors. My husband and I go out and look for shed antlers. First off it's great to get out and enjoy nature and breathe fresh air. Getting outdoors and soaking up the sunshine/vitamin D is important for immunity. Also shed hunting, as us Minnesotans call it, is great exercise. Walking through the woods or driving in a side-by-side and picking up the antlers, it felt great to be outdoors!

  • Freidreich's Ataxia Overview

Freidreich's ataxia is a rare genetic disorder that affects the nervous system, specifically the cerebellum, which controls movement and coordination. It is caused by a deficiency of the frataxin protein, which is essential for the proper functioning of the mitochondria. The disease is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner, which means that an individual must inherit two copies of the defective gene (one from each parent) to develop the disease. Symptoms of Freidreich's ataxia typically appear in childhood or adolescence and may include difficulty with coordination and balance, speech difficulties, and muscle weakness. As the disease progresses, individuals may also experience vision problems, scoliosis, and cardiomyopathy (a heart muscle disorder). There is currently no cure for Freidreich's ataxia and treatment options are limited. Physical therapy and occupational therapy can help improve muscle strength and coordination, and speech therapy can help with communication difficulties. Medications can also be prescribed to manage symptoms such as spasticity, and orthotic devices can be used to help with mobility. Research is ongoing to find a cure or treatment for Freidreich's ataxia. One promising area of research is gene therapy, which involves introducing a healthy copy of the frataxin gene into cells to replace the defective one. Clinical trials are currently underway to test the safety and effectiveness of this approach. It's important to note that the symptoms and progression of Freidreich's ataxia can vary widely from person to person, and that most people with the disease will have a normal lifespan. Supportive care, regular medical checkups, and a positive attitude can help individuals with Freidreich's ataxia live full and meaningful lives. In conclusion, Freidreich's ataxia is a rare genetic disorder that affects the nervous system, causing difficulty with coordination, balance, and muscle weakness. There is no cure for the disease, but treatment options can help improve symptoms and quality of life. Research is ongoing to find a cure or treatment for the disorder, and hope for the future.

Core, Core, Core A strong core is extremely essential! Your core helps you walk, sit, stand, correct your posture. All my workouts have core incorporated in them! Whether that's bracing/engaging (sucking bellybutton to spine) or just the average core exercise, I focus on core with every workout! * Shoulder Taps -focus on engaging your core, being as steady as possible, and doing slow and controlled movements!
